  Here are two prints from today made on a Takach etching press. The plates were exposed using the felt and plate warming techniques. Chemicals graphics ink, blue black, sepia, and green, Fabriano Artistico 300gsm.

• Mysterious White Dots on Photopolymer Plates

  Platemaking was a challenge yesterday. I had problems with mysterious white dots on my polymer plates. The dots were most noticeable in the midtones and low values. I discovered other users of polymer plates have experienced similar problems so I tried various techniques I found online to resolve the issues to no avail.

  I made a new plate of the “Leaf” using the Nuarc plate burner and got a much better etch to work with. 7.5″ x 8″ on BFK Rives. Chemical Graphics ink, burnt umber, and graphite. Takach Press.

  This was made on a KM-73 plate. The exposure was 18 units under the transparency, and 18 units under the aquatint screen in a Nuarc. The plate was washed out with a sponge for about 1 minute. 4″x5″ on BFK Rives, in burnt umber. Made on a Takach press. The story behind this orchid is [...]
