Here we are in Jerome, our first stop on our trip to the Salton Sea. We’re here for a few days where I’m photographing artwork for a friend. We’re hoping to leave on Tuesday for Southern California weather permitting. The drive on Saturday was challenging and long. The wind started picking up just before the Arizona/New Mexico border and got worse as we drove west. When we reached Holbrook we could see a wall of dust in the distance. Between Holbrook and Winslow, conditions worsened on I-40, visibility decreased, and everyone slowed down to a crawl. Debris blew across the highway like shrapnel as we drove through pockets of total brown-out. White-knuckling it down I-40, Jim wrote a poem about Arizona, and Bodie slept….
