Cloud Formation on Salted Paper

October 25th, 2008 by laura | Filed under Laura Campbell Fine Art.

I’m so excited about getting my darkroom set up I decided to revisit the Salted Paper Process. I haven’t made a Salted print since 2005. But over the last few days I’ve been seeing certain photographs on Salt so I waited until I just couldn’t stand it anymore and then brewed up a batch. For this test print, I used the simple formula comprised of salt/water and silver nitrate/water. I sized Arches Platine with starch and double coated the paper with silver using a brush. The print was exposed in the UV box for 18.5 minutes, rinsed in water, toned in gold-borax, and fixed. During the next testing session, I want to approach the process a little differently than I did today. The photograph is of a cloud formation made near Red River, New Mexico.
