RSSDeath Valley cabin in vinegar and tea
June 29th, 2008 by laura | Filed under Laura Campbell Fine Art.Today I treated myself to working with a new negative. I printed “Cabin, Death Valley” in blue. What I enjoy about this image are the light leaks. It brings to mind the feel of the open desert and the intense light in Death Valley. The other day on the f295 forum, Earl Johnson expressed an interest in trying vinegar to increase midtone contrast in one of his prints. This came to mind as I ran off my first test print today and had difficulty with contrast in the rock and brush in the lower left portion of the print. When I made the second print, rather than develop in water, I developed the print in vinegar for 2 minutes. The vinegar was surprisingly effective in separating the tones in those problem areas.

Beautiful photography! I think the vinegar was what made the separation of the tones so good! Nice work.
