RSSToday I worked primarily on coating technique using the New Cyanotype formula. I found it very different than coating palladium. I started with Crane’s Platinotype paper, a thick card-stock type paper, and a puddle pusher. This combination didn’t work for me resulting in splotching and uneven coats. I attempted to resolve the problem by double coating with a Hake brush. While this helped, the problem wasn’t resolved to my satisfaction. I switched to a different paper applying a single coat with a Hake brush on Crane’s Kid Finish. I obtained much better coating results using CKF, a Hake brush and a single coat. Below is a test print. This neg was previously printed on palladium and was used again for these basic coating tests. The print was exposed for 70 seconds in a UV light box and was processed in a 1 percent solution of hydrochloric acid. Unfortunately, the scan here doesn’t fully convey the bright pretty blue and the snap of the original print.
