Pinhole Photo: Telephone Pole, Owens Valley
This was taken on the Owenyo-Lone Pine Road. I can’t help noticing the telephone poles near the Inyo Mountain range. They march in single file into the desert like solitary giants…
Pinhole Photo: Bullseye!
This was my favorite subject of the day. I’ve had my eye on this one but had trouble visualizing the print because the subject needed to be isolated from a huge transformer nearby. Today, as I drove by again, I figured out how I’d make it and had great fun in the process.
Fence Post and Wire
I made this image near the area where Lone Pine and Owenyo Roads intersect. I made several images on this road — one of a telephone pole, another of a windmill water pump. I didn’t realize until after I made the image that the post looks a little like a torso and legs…
Water Returned to the Lower Owens River
Almost a century later, water is flowing again in the Lower Owens River. This image was taken on a service road near the north end of Owens Lake.
Pinhole Photo: Toxic Dust, Owens (Dry) Lake

Pinhole Photo: Wildflowers and Sky, Death Valley
The weather in Death Valley was perfect this week and the wildflowers were in bloom. In the Furnace Creek area, the alluvial fans were covered in Desert Gold. I made the image of the wildflowers the first morning there, at my campsite, during coffee. I set the camera on the ground and had great fun [...]
Pinhole Photo: Palm, Slope and Rock, Death Valley
The palms at Furnace Creek have always fascinated me. I’m not sure what the count is — maybe a few dozen palm trees? My last day there, I finally ventured over with the pinhole camera. The palms are huge noble trees but at the same time they seem so awkward. I just wanted to take [...]
Pinhole Photo: Road and Badlands, Death Valley
Twenty Mule Team Canyon, Death Valley.

Cloud and Badland, Death Valley
The clouds were moving quickly when I made this photograph in Death Valley. I didn’t have enough time to clean the rollers on my Polaroid back, resulting in a banding effect. Even so, I’m happy with this image…
