Pinhole Photo: Sierra and Reflection on Owens Lake
Greetings from my camp at the base of the Sierra’s. I’m here until Wednesday or so waiting for a shipment of film expected to arrive in the next day or so. This is a great spot to camp. There is Big Sage everywhere, the wind has quieted down, I have a panoramic [...]
Pinhole Photo: Darwin Ghost Town Revisited
Today marked my third visit to Darwin. The town was very quiet when I arrived at high noon. The only sounds I heard were multiple explosions and Pierre whizzing around town in his Volkswagen bus. Pierre stopped on his third pass to invite me to check out his property. The explosions continued on and off [...]
Pinhole Photo: Darwin Ghost Town
Today marked my second visit to Darwin. I love Darwin. It’s the kind of place that stimulates the imagination. Today’s daydream involved playing gorilla-golf on the outskirts of town with an iced coffee in one hand, and a cable release in the other. I had all kinds of problems with flare [...]
Pinhole Photo: Third Rock Formation, Alabama Hills
This was the third subject I photographed in the Alabama Hills. The sculptural formations of the hills are complex. It took a few visits to the area, hiking and walking my dog, to figure out how I wanted to present the rocks. So, this is how I see the formations when I’m [...]
Pinhole Photo: Another Rock Formation, Alabama Hills
This image was made yesterday in the Alabama Hills. These rocks were great to photograph because they were easy to isolate against the open sky.
Pinhole Photo: Tower No. 8, Manzanar
I returned to the Manzanar Relocation Center today to photograph the guard tower. Many of the fruit trees there are starting to bloom.
Pinhole Photo: Self Portrait
This self portrait was made in collaboration with Jim Spaulding. I set up the tripod and camera, pulled the film, and gave him exposure info letting him work the cable release. This image was taken on Horseshoe Meadow Road this morning. The area overlooks Owens Lake which I was hoping to record from above but [...]
Pinhole Photo: Rock Formation, Alabama Hills
I returned to the Alabama Hills today on the west side of Lone Pine. I found a nice group of rock formations to the south and made several images there. There were ravens circling in the area but none posed for a photo…
Pinhole Photo: Deceased Doe
On Horseshoe Meadow Road this morning I stumbled upon a very sad scene. A doe lay dead on the side of the road. It looked like she was struck by a car as her hind leg was badly broken. I hope the person who hit her didn’t leave her to suffer alone.
Pinhole Photo: Superwide Sage!
I don’t use the superwide angle extension on my pinhole camera much. Yesterday I decided it was time for wide angle fun. This image was taken in the Alabama Hills in Lone Pine, CA.
The Holga photo shown below was made in the Alabama Hills by Jim Spaulding. The tiny figure standing in [...]
